Arava - Hedai Ofaimme

Hedai Ofaimme

"Arava" is not a cookbook, just as it is not a geography book. The work of creating this book was for Dey Afaiim an attempt to cook his meals while they were made from the spiritual and physical, natural and human landscape of the Arava region, which has fascinated him all his life. His meals do not begin in the kitchen and do not end with plates, but rather gather what his eyes and heart have recorded and place their dishes on the table as a small gift to the lovers of this desert and a companion to the poets of it in their plows. The book was prepared by Dei Afaim together with photographer Alex Libek, an Israel Prize laureate, whose heart went out to the Arava until he copied his life there, and with his eyes and his camera he managed to describe what would never be written with a pen or cooked in a pot, and with photographer Dan Peretz and stylist Nurit Kariv, who arrived early one morning in the Arava, on his stone tools and bowls, and meal after meal they painted prepared meals with light and material, until the work was complete.
